The trees stood as silent, tall sentinals, guarding the nighttime woods from whatever trouble may befall on them. He sat silently by the glassy lake in a state of relaxed alertness. He looked out to the far shore, crossing his legs and resting his paws on his knees. He closed his eyes and slowed his breathing, concentration evident on his face.

The ottermaid was nearby studying him from a distance. She kept quiet though seeing he was concentrating on something. She glanced at the lake also and then glanced up at the full moon, studying it for sometime as well.

He opened his eyes and flicked his ears back, the frown, that was perpetual on his face, was only slight but still distinguishable. He could hear her there, he knew how long she'd been there and could have traced her steps to within a centimeter. Though he knew anyone could be a threat, he dismissed her and tried again to free his mind from consious thought.

Areea brought out her dagger for a minute, testing its handle and studying its blade. Still in good condition. She resheathed the dagger and glanced up at the sky again. Was her friend there? She figured so and did not worry much about it. She glanced at Reyan and then leaned back against the treee after sitting down, bored-like, and began to sharpen her dagger for something to do.

An arrow buried itself in the soft earth of the shoreline next to Reyan's footpaws. He opened his eyes slowly, a slight smile tugging at the corners of his mouth as he recognised the black and white fletching on the arrows. 'You're out of practice...' the otter commented darkly closing his eyes again. 'Yeah well y'wasn' the one 'oo w's left alone 'angin' upside down in some godforsak'n 'ole...' came the reply as a creature stepped out from the bushes and sat itself down heavily, picking bits of leaves from its attire.

Areea listened to the conversation going on and watched the other creature, wondering who it was. She kept quiet not moving a single muscle, breathing lightly, waiting to hear more of the conversation.

'You got yourself into that situation, you should've been able to get yourself out...' the otter said with a wry smile. The tiger pulled his arrow from the ground and examined the point, 'Easy enough f'r you t' say... You're a shadow wh'n ya wanna be... I can't j'st disappear infronta two score varmints armed t' the teeth...' 'You'd be well to learn to then South...' 'Ha ha...' he punched the otter on the arm before looking outover the lake, 'Oy, "Oh Master",' South pointed out over the lake, 'Whassat light over there?' The otter's eyes shot up, a dagger immediately in his paw, knowing that there wasn't usually a light there. He looked at the dancing flames for a moment before looking to the tiger, 'Let's go find out...'

Areea also noticed the light but didn't approach. Instead she studied it from where she was, also throwing a few glances at the tiger. Where did he come from? Areea studied him a few more minutes longer and then turned his attention back to the light.

The tiger nodded and jumped to his footpaws, looking back to where Reyan had been seconds before. He raised an eyebrow and looked around, the otter tapping him on the shoulder, 'This way, mate. Gotta be on yer toes... there's vermin about...' 'Wish ye wouldn' do that...' South muttered as they crept along in the pitch black.

Areea stayed where she was studying the tiger and figuring he was ok for now. She studied the light and frowned. Couldn't be nothing to dangerous........but she was curious as to what it was. She flicked her eyes up to glance at the moon for a minute and then back down at the strange glowing light which seemed to be getting brighter and brighter but staying in the same location.

Reyan and South stopped about five meters from the light, well hidden but completely consumed by the scene that met them. A creature, charred and scorched beyond recognition, was tided to a poll and had been set alight - still burning brightly thanks to the cheap clothing. South glanced across at Reyan, who was forwning deeply, 'Who'd ya think dunnit, eh?' the white tiger asked the otter, looking back to the blaze. Reyan shook his head, 'Seems like it'd be somebeast who's a big threat around here... maybe it was payback for a broken promise or a deadline not met...'

The black ottermaid could hear the concerns in the voices of the otter and tiger and frowned. This wasn't good.....she straightened up from the tree she had been leaning against and followed to where the otter and the tiger was and emerged beside Zyo. "What is it?" Areea got a good look at what it was and gasped. "Why would someone do this?!"

Areea thought a minute and think shook her head. "No, not near here anyhow....have any ideas maybe?"
